For centuries, the shores of the Golden Horn and its surrounding living spaces have been a public area with high living standards, preserving historical layers and maintaining a strong connection with water and greenery. However, with industrialization followed by rapid growth-oriented urbanization, the construction and destruction processes have led to significant losses in the Golden Horn's historical and cultural heritage. At the same time, its ecosystem-comprising water, vegetation, and living organisms- has been polluted and, in some areas, even destroyed.
Today, considerable progress has been made in addressing pollution. However, the impacts of large-scale demolitions and loss of heritage continue to be felt. This proposed project aims to understand these losses by uncovering and interpreting the hidden historical layers of the Golden Horn. By revealing the historical strata above and below the ground, the project seeks to bring forgotten history to light, preserve it, and integrate it into public spaces.
Focusing on the continuous historical layers of the Golden Horn, the project proposes short- and long-term strategies to restore the area as a high-quality public space.
